6/9/2001: More cards with KYRO and KYRO II

    It seems that PowerVR is not going to be content with only one pair of models of cards governed by his graphic chip, therefore it has come to an agreement with different manufacturers (almost all Taiwanese ones and of minor prestige that Hercules, of course) so that they make cards with his encouraging chip as engine.
    The manufacturers who soon will integrate the graphic chips KYRO are CHANCE-I, Club3D Technology Inc., Ennyah Technologies Corp., InnoVISION Multimedia Ltd., Joytech, Kifer, Lung Hwa, MPLUSTECH, OJU CTN and SUM, the majority integrating models both with 32 and with 64 MB of RAM and/or with exits for television or digital screens.
    And the fact is that it seems that PowerVR is ready to cover big part of the market that orphan S3 left on having left the struggle (for the time being) withdrawing his Savage4 and Savage2000, acquaintances chips in the lowest and cheap scales of the market, frequented by these manufacturers, for whom the powerful but economic KYRO are almost a blessing.

6/8/2001: The winner of the career for 0:13 microns is...: ROUTE??

    Against prognosis, ROUTE has just announced officially that it is already prepared for the massive production of his new processor C3 0,13 micron s, in the factories of also Taiwanese TSMC (ROUTE "only" designs the chip, of his dirty work - and of that of NVIDIA and many others - the giant TSMC takes charge). The above mentioned processor known with Ezra's by-name, allows to ROUTE to reach better levels of yield, minor energy expense and minor dissipation of heat.
    At the same time also it has presented the version of the 0,13 micron s C3 for portable. The above mentioned technology makes it meritorious of being the processor at present smaller than the market, and the best candidate to lengthen the duration of the battery (with pardon of Crusoe de Transmeta); a concept this one slightly careless and with unlike solutions (like reducing the speed of the mike) despite being almost so important as the same potency of the mike.
    The processor C3 appears in frequencies for the time being of up to 800 MHz, with 128 KB of level cache memory 1 and 64 KB of level cache memory 2 at the same speed of the mike. Support frontal buses of 100 ó 133 MHz and be optimized for the multimedia instructions MMX and 3DNow! of AMD. Portable versions exist for diverse sockets, as well as with voltage ultra low and/or with the technology LongHaul to reduce the voltage and the speed of clock (in a way similar to the PowerNow! of AMD).
    ROUTE will not be still able to presume to have mikes on the gigahertzio, but it seems that yes it will be able to do it of being the first one in throwing a 0,13 micron s mike , a technology especially indicated for the portable ones and to reach high clock frequencies in those of dessert. Although skylight, Intel and AMD will not be late in doing the proper thing... we will keep you informed.

6/7/2001: AMD announces the availability of the Athlon to 1,4 GHz and the Duron to 950 MHz

    The series of processors Athlon Thunderbird seems that it is coming to his final straight line. AMD has just announced the new model to 1,4 GHz, as well as the Duron to 950 MHz. The model Athlon is free in two versions, one with bus 266 MHz Federal Security Service and other one to 200 MHz, both at a price of only 253 $. The AMD Duron to 950 MHz uses a 200 MHz bus and costs 122 $ (official prices in quantities of 1.000 units, skylight).
    According to AMD, the Athlon to 1,4 GHz with memory DDR-SDRAM is up to 40 % more rapid than Intel Pentium 4 to 1,7 GHz in a wide tests variety, including digital image and speech recognition; this depends on the test in particular, but it is believable. The same source aims that the AMD Duron keeps on being 30 % more rapid than Intel Celeron, which yes is indisputable.
    The model to 1,4 GHz seems to be the last one that will be made by the warm nucleus Thunderbird, to pass the Athlon 4 of dessert (with the new nucleus Young pigeon), which will go out with an initial frequency of 1,5 GHz, perhaps at the end of this June. The same the Duron is waited, with his successor with nucleus Morgan, although this model yes that it seems that it is going to have certain delay. Be as it is, AMD will keep on doing competitive mikes at all the levels and this is of being grateful.

6/6/2001: Our entreaty has been listened: Dual Athlon!! (MP)

    Being confirmed like a valid offer for all the segments of the bought PC, AMD has presented his first esperadísima platform for dual multiprocess (that is to say, for servants or workstations with two microprocessors): the chipset AMD 760MP.
    Although it seems that also it can work with mikes Athlon and Duron, this chipset is thought for his use with the new Athlon MP, a review of the Athlon based on the nucleus Young pigeon (like the Athlon 4) that includes diverse optimizations to improve the yield in dual configurations. At first it will be free to 1,2 GHz (265 $) and to 1 GHz (215 $), both with 266 MHz bus .
    Initially there will be the only provider of basic badges: Tyan. It is not a question of closing the market to other manufacturers (not further at all of the philosophy AMD... for the time being), but of assuring the finished reliability and compatibility of the platform; not in vain they take several years preparing it and many months - too much - polishing it. And Tyan has one excellent and more than fully deserved reputation on this matter.
    The basic badges Tyan Thunder K7 will not be cheap (approximately 550 $), between other motives for the technical requisites of the technology Smart MP of AMD, which incorporates system buses EV6 point dual to point. This improves the yield, since it is not necessary to distribute the band for every mike, as it happens with the dual Intel chipsets. 6/5/2001: ATI keeps on equipping the re-designed ones iBook with Apple

    In what we suppose it will have been a hard battle with NVIDIA, the people of the Canadian ATI have managed to place his already known ATI RAGE MOBILITY 128 in the new version of the iBook of the company of the apple (Apple type Macintosh, for more signs). 6/4/2001: NVIDIA nForce: the best chipset of all the times?

    NVIDIA, the leader almost undiscussed the graphic market 3D, has just presented in the fair COMPUTEX of Taipei (Taiwan) his first chipset for PCs, the nForce (also known like Crush). Based on the same technology that he has designed for the console XBOX of Microsoft, his characteristics really it do a danger for the current chipsets manufacturers.
    To start, his IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor, the chip that does the NorthBridge times) an integrated graphic checker includes, of level similar or superior to a GeForce2 MX... that is to say, much more rapid than the integrated in chipsets of Intel, ROUTE, ALi, etc. Y extendable by means of groove AGP, if yield is still wished more.
    But more impressive still turns out to be the architecture of memory TwinBank of the IGP: two controlers of memory of 64 bits that can work of completely independent form, providing support for DDR-SDRAM or SDRAM, with a breadth of effective bus of 128 bits; that is to say: up to 4,2 GB/s!!     The chipset will be free only for mikes AMD Athlon or Duron. And seen the seen, Intel should worry... about without speaking about ROUTE, ALi, Creative (those of the SoundBlaster), and many others. And although there still does not exist a definitive date of throwing (good, the XBOX should be ready in autumn, so perhaps for this Christmastime...), already we know that ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, ABIT and others support this one gentle - chipset. Once again: IMPRESSIVE... at least theoretically.
