12/10/2000: ROUTE becomes strong on the chipsets market for SDRAM

If for the time being Gigabyte is the only company that has made badges for memory DDR with the AMD-761 (although with certain problems to 266 MHz... earlier it was Intel with his i820, now AMD is who has problems), and Iwill has monopolized for the time being to ALi MAGiK 1, ROUTE becomes strong in the most well-known field of the memory SDRAM PC100/PC133 with his new chipsets for for mikes AMD, the ROUTE ProSavage KM133 and Apollo KT133A.
The KM133 is a chipset with integrated checker of video, brother of the PM133; if first it touched the platform Intel, now the shift is for AMD and his Socket A. This chipset was very awaited, since it will allow to the OEMs to make systems of low cost based on the AMD Duron; till now, the only option for the scale market average - fall were much slower Intel Celeron and AMD K6-2.
On the other hand, the KT133A offers support for the new bus of 266 MHz of the most recent processors AMD; it is a question of a very good option for the manufacturers, since to the being his connections completely compatible with the KT133, with only one chipset can make basic badges for the whole scale of mikes AMD Socket A.

12/9/2000: IBM and Infineon will develop a new type of memory, the MRAM

The "blue giant" will collaborate with the German manufacturer of memoirs Infineon to develop a new technology of memory named MRAM, Magnetic Random Access Memory (magnetic memory of random access).
The MRAM is based on the use of magnetic charges to store the state of the bits of memory (0 ó 1), in a similar way to as it happens on the hard disks, instead of the usual method that it uses electrical charges. This would have multiple advantages, being the principal one that the content of the memory does not have to be refreshed of continuous form, what will allow a big energy saving in all kinds of portable devices.
Moreover, the content of the memory remains unaltered enclosed to to extinguish the computer, what it will allow to make PCs of "instantaneous starter"; and, according to two manufacturers, the MRAM will be also more rapid and of major capacity than the current electronic memoirs... anyway, slightly exceptional.
In charge of the project there will be approximately 80 scientists and engineers of IBM and Infineon; the first commercial products are waited about 2004, what supposes a very rapid development... or perhaps very slowly, since already in 1974 IBM invented some of his basic components.

12/8/2000: AMD continues for the good way with his Athlon Palomino

As indicate diverse sources, the future successor of Athlon Thunderbird, Athlon Palomino, it goes for good way. (Ejem... you forgive for the couplet, an irresistible temptation). apparently in a recent test they have made him work to 1,5 GHz without any type of apparent problem.
Also, it is necessary to bear in mind that it worked even with a refrigeration system without fan, warming up much less than the current models of 1,2 GHz. This might owe to a new type of silicon formed by the only atomic isotope, in such a way that his crystalline structure is more perfect and removes more heat than the formed one by diverse isotopes of silicon.
Seemingly, this material of big conductivity would be the employee to make the prototype of Young pigeon used in the tests, perhaps along with some small modification of the nucleus. Good news if we bear in mind that the Pentium 4 needs a system of special refrigeration for the enormous heat that it produces...: so much like the most rapid Athlon!
One hopes that the Young pigeon (it is not the trade name, probably will be simply "Another Athlon") substitute Athlon Thunderbird in the middle of the first four-month period of 2001, with initial speeds I half-close 1,4 GHz, coming up to 2 GHz at the beginning of 2002. One believes that there will be completely compatible with the current basic badges Socket A (a luck)...

12/7/2000: To the sale the first badges DDR for Athlon and Duron

Of course, in USA, we will have still to wait a little to enjoy them in the rest of the world. The basic badges KA266/KA266-R of Iwill take as a principal innovation the use of ALi's new chipset, the ALiMAGiK1, and the support of a checker RAID in the model KA266-R. Also, of course, of the support of the memoirs DDR200 and DDR266 (also calls PC1600 and PC2000).
On the part of Gigabyte, the elected chipset is the AMD-761, although the badge (GA-7DXC) is something disappointing since only he supports memory DDR200 (PC1600), which can influence negatively his yield. Neither he has checker RAID.
It seems that soon also we will be provided with badges DDR of Soyo (SY-K7ALA-R, with the ALiMAGiK1) and ASUS (A7M266, with the AMD-761); the rest of manufacturers probably will react soon.
Finally, ALi announces that it is ready to make chipsets DDR for Pentium 4, based on the design of Aladdin Pro 5, the chipset DDR for ALi's Pentium III.

12/6/2000: NVIDIA aims at another point more: the GeForce optimized for the Pentium 4

While to 3dfx the "surf" passes to him after verifying that his product covers with stars, the Voodoo5, it does not work in the new badges for the Pentium 4 (due to a "simple" electrical problem), NVIDIA notes down another point more.
As affirms officially NVIDIA, his current "flagship", the GeForce2 GTS Ultra, it is already optimized for the Pentium 4 since the last drivers Detonator 3 give native support for the new instructions SSE2 of Intel; this is also extensible to the rest of the family GeForce, since they use the same drivers.
(Curiously, 3dfx he was affirming not long ago that also there is drivers optimized for the Voodoo5, but: as what does it serve of course cannot it get connected to the motherboard?? Very well, we will always have left the Voodoo4...)
This is good news for the lucky owners of the "Ultra", bearing in mind that, as they have demonstrated the tests, the unit of floating comma (FPU) of the new Pentium 4 is very slow in comparison to when it uses the SSE2. Certainly, Intel must trust very much in his new instructions to give all the yield responsibility to the above mentioned instructions... and why not, also he trusts in his checkbook and in his aptitude to convince the software developers.

12/5/2000: Rambus threatens with more judgments and contract even more pleaded

    As very correctly
The Register indicates, Rambus Inc should leave the business of designing memoirs and settling like the buffet "Rambus, Rambus and Rambus". Or at least that gets rid of a few declarations of his President, Geoff Tate, in which it threatens with more judgments for the supposed fraudulent use of his patents.
Against whom?, they will wonder some. Well, it is not that they have left many people with whom to dispute between the memory manufacturers, so now they have the sight put on the manufacturers and designers of chipsets (we suppose that ROUTE, principally); and they do not do it precisely with soft terms: "Sometimes he asked me if the councils of administration of these companies are conscious of the consequences of losing a suit on patents against us", he declared (it threatened?) Tate.
It does not even escape the one that was his valedora, Intel, which it satiates of the Rambus position and worried by the scarce acceptance of his memory RDRAM, it glides to make chipsets for the Pentium 4 with support of the memory DDR-SDRAM... another memory than Rambus also says to have invented largely...
Just in case, Rambus has published on his pages one announcement looking even more pleaded of patents, for his every time major juridical department. A logical decision, since they have interposed demands in Germany, Italy, France and the United States; although in the USA they are careful, since his recent attempt of rejecting a critical judge with his position has placed them in an uncomfortable position... but at this point a possible enemy more or less must not matter for them too much.
