His publicity in CsH

The logical part: the BIOS

First of all, a warning: the possible adjustments in the BIOS are great (several tens) and very complex, so I did not hope that everything is in these lines. For more information, apart from the manual of the motherboard the most important and decisive (information source), go to: What is... the BIOS?, or to the web site of the manufacturer of the badge (for very technical information), or there be even obtained a pair of manuals of basic badges of his friends to compare.

If it is a question of an update, it will be able to use some information of his ancient BIOS, but not much less all. In any case, the steps to be continued are the following ones:

1. - Between in the BIOS, perhaps with the key "Supr" ("Of") or of another form (this is one of the paragraphs in which I cannot help him... read the manual of the badge or the indications on screen).

2. - Fit first the basic parameters (hour, hard disk, disk drive...). Next an example pantallazo comes, but it is possible that luck does not look alike at all to his BIOS.... Look also if the memory inventory is the correct one and if it coincides with the test that is done on having started the computer; do not worry why it puts anything less, how 23.936 Kb instead of 24.576 Kb (24 MB, 24 "gentle ones"). Nevertheless, in both cases it must be close to the real number: 16 MB nothing when he has installed 32!!

3. - Go on then to other general parameters, such characteristics of the BIOS as support of internal and external cache memory (do not forget to enable them or his Pentium will go like 286 rapidly), tests, sequence of starter and Video Shadow (that this is not the place to explain).

Configuration of a mike by means of the BIOS

4. - Seguidamente, pass to the support of microprocessor, memory, chipset, cache memory and checkers. If the badge is "without jumpers", probably the parameters of the mike have been exact for the BIOS automatically, but you can want to do it manually, for example for overclocking: to raise his bus speed, to fit his voltage...

He will need to know the speed and reliability of his memory RAM (if 100 supports ó 133 MHz or those who are, if he can support CAS=2 or only CAS=3...), a little on checkers, if his printer, scanner or Zip prefer EPP, ECP or SPP for the parallel port... a little complicated: truth? Anyway, for many options it will be able to select the automatic way and work will save itself.

5. - Finally, form the options of saving of energy, put a safety key (a password) to the system if he wishes it or there verifies the configuration of his hard disk with the car detection (care with this option, on having used it sometimes, "crushes" what we had put earlier to hand).

6. - Verify everything again, record the changes and go out of the BIOS. Begin again the computer (probably he does it automatically) and observes for more possible errors. If everything it has been fine, it will start the operating system of his hard disk and will have a new computer; congratulations!! If not, he keeps on reading to find solution to some common problems...
